
Mitsubishi Motors North America has revealed more details about the charging technology of its upcoming 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV, confirming that the brand’s first new-generation battery electric vehicle for the region will arrive with broad charging compatibility and access to one of the largest fast-charging networks.
Following its global debut in June, the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV will launch across North America in fall 2026 with SAE North American Charging System (NACS) compatibility as standard equipment across the lineup. The move will allow owners to access the Tesla Supercharger network, expanding charging availability for Mitsubishi EV drivers.
The sporty electric subcompact SUV will support DC fast charging at speeds of up to 150 kW. Under optimal conditions, the Eclipse Sportback EV can recharge from 10% to 80% battery capacity in approximately 35 minutes using Level 3 fast charging. Actual charging performance may vary depending on factors such as battery temperature, ambient conditions, charging equipment, battery age, and vehicle usage during charging.
For home charging and other charging locations, the Eclipse Sportback EV will also include a J1772 connector, supporting both Level 1 and Level 2 charging.
Beyond its charging capabilities, the new electric SUV will introduce a distinctive design direction for Mitsubishi. The Eclipse Sportback EV features unique front and rear fascias inspired by the company’s global lineup, along with signature lighting elements, sporty alloy wheels, and Mitsubishi’s familiar Triple Diamond emblem.
The new EV represents a key milestone in Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 business plan, which focuses on electrification, a refreshed product portfolio, an updated retail experience, and stronger dealer partnerships. The Eclipse Sportback EV will be followed in early 2027 by a rugged, off-road-oriented version of the Outlander SUV.
Mitsubishi is expected to release additional details about the Eclipse Sportback EV, including specifications, pricing, and range figures, closer to its market launch. The model will compete in the growing electric compact SUV segment as automakers continue expanding affordable and practical EV options in North America.
The new Eclipse Sportback EV is built on the same foundation as the next-generation Nissan LEAF, but Mitsubishi has emphasized that the vehicle will feature its own distinct styling and brand identity.
While sharing its underlying architecture with Nissan’s latest electric model, the Eclipse Sportback EV receives unique front and rear fascias inspired by Mitsubishi’s global design language. The electric crossover also features exclusive lighting elements, distinctive front and rear light signatures, sport-oriented alloy wheels, and prominent Triple Diamond branding.
The result is a compact electric SUV that blends Mitsubishi’s recognizable styling cues with the advanced EV technology of the latest LEAF platform.
